AMA COVID-19 daily video update: Pediatricians share learnings from surge in child cases

In part one of a two-part series, AMA Chief Experience Officer Todd Unger talks to pediatricians about the impact of COVID-19 on children, including the latest numbers showing that the number of kids getting COVID is a lot higher than initially anticipated.


In response to growing cases among children, pediatricians cite increased testing among children as well as reopening and increased movement across the country. When it comes to understanding how COVID-19 impacts children, there is still a lot that is unknown but it is clear that there is a wide variety of ways that coronavirus can present, especially in mild forms. One prevalent trend we are seeing in children is multi-system inflammatory syndrome and as our understanding of the disease evolves, we will start to potentially see more differences in COVID-19 in children. When it comes to treating children and families during this pandemic, there are several challenges when it comes to treating children with preexisiting conditions and the social isolation that comes with hospital visitations during this time.
