Children Visiting the Emergency Room Due to Mental Health Increases

As schools remain closed, the risk of other issues arising increases. One of these problems includes the growing concern regarding student wellness. Over the years, the rates of emergency room visits among children with mental health disorders has increased.

Visits for deliberate self-harm and mental health disorders spiked between 2016-2017.

"Children are going wherever is closest to their home, but often the emergency department closest to their home is not as prepared to treat children with behavioral and mental health disorders as a specialized pediatric children's hospital."
