How COVID-19 Affects Immigrants Detained By ICE

The past several months have held the question: what will happen to the hundreds of immigrants held by ICE? Recent reports show that ICE has been allowing immigrants our of jails, due to the heightened risk of contracting COVID-19.

Although ICE has neither confirmed or denied exactly how many detainees have been released,

the agency states that those who were labeled as "vulnerable" were released. This is an important breakthrough since many of the detention centers are in New York and New Jersey, two states with growing virus rates. In addition, four staff members have been reported to have died from coronavirus.
