Honoring School Staff We Have Lost Due to Coronavirus
Sandra Santos-Vizcaino, a third-grade teacher at P.S. 9 in Brooklyn has been identified as the first first NYC public school teacher to die from the new coronavirus, at only 54 years old.
A week prior to this, Brooklyn principal Dez-Ann Romain was the first city education employee reported to have died of the virus. Romain was principal at Brooklyn Democracy Academy, a transfer school in Brownsville for students reaching for their high school diploma. At 36 years old, she passes away due to Coronavirus complications.
Both schools, their communities, and the families of both victims are deeply saddened by these losses. As schools adjust to many new changes, we keep the numerous teachers, staff members, and students in our thoughts.
